Burbling acid house synths, sweeping New Wave overtones - all is thrown into the apocalyptic, chaotic kitchen sink that is Xiu Xiu's new single Hi - the first to be taken from new album Always.
Hi's feet remain firmly placed on the dancefloor, but this is a song that is far, far more than just a club track. It is an experiment, and a teeteringly mad, dangerous one at that. But for all its slap-dash approach to throwing in disparate noises and instruments in together, it somehow, impossibly, works.
Innovative, individual, truly like nothing else out there, Xiu Xiu's music is the gloriously bonkers brain-child of an unfettered mind.
The album Always is released on the 27th February.
