Right from the insistent sweetness of the sampled bird calls that open the track, Heartbeating City feels like a shot of distilled happiness. The latest single from Irish singer-songwriter Wallis Bird, the track follows Irish Top 20 album New Boots and Wallis' debut Spoons which made significant waves on iTunes back in 2007 after one of its tracks was offered as a free Single of the Week.
Quirky, frothy, delicately enchanting - Heartbeating City is profoundly pop, yet succeeds most because it feels removed from the furious competition of the many solo female stars battling it out in the charts right now. As a song existing in its own sphere, it has space to breath - and for a song of such an organic genesis, it is this space that it most naturally occupies.
Oh, and it wouldn't surprise me if the track ended up on an advert sometime later this year too - it's 'that' kind of song.
Wallis Bird's new album is released on the 12th March.
