Story Books - Peregrine
Hailing from the Isle of Sheppey, Story Books sound as insular and water-boundaried as their roots. Huw Stephens supported single Peregrine is a slow, methodic tapestry of delicate guitar tendrils, all replete in sonic textures of exquisite luxury.
Halfway through, Peregrine erupts into a snarling solo, a ferrous outburst of noise of getting-it-out-of-you passion before collapsing back into its rich, interwoven depths. And at the heart of it all, vocalist Kris Harris' voice - a constant, steadfast companion.
Like a more rough-hewn XX, Story Books turn the most beautifully minimalist of tracks into involving, lustrous art.
