Goldfrapp - Melancholy Sky

Back in 2008 when Goldfrapp released their folk-electronica tinged LP Seventh Tree, general consensus was mixed - some loved the new direction, others hated it. But in hindsight, and with room to breath, tracks like A&E still stand as pristine, naturally-tinged pop gems, all wrapped up in sumptuous string sections and delicate flickers of synthesiser magic. And it's to this sound the duo return to on Melancholy Sky, taken from forthcoming greatest hits collection, The Singles.

It's a beautiful, breathtaking piece of music and a single that easily manages to rank up there with the other Goldfrapp greats. For a band that so much of the general public seem to know only from the glam stomp Ooh La La, Melancholy Sky is a soaring reminder of how good they can be at the mellower end of the spectrum too.
