It might share it's name with one of my all time favourite Erasure songs, but Ryan Adams' new single Chains of Love stands as a brilliant track in its own right and one of the immediate standouts from his stellar new album Ashes & Fire.
Of all the tracks, the soaring, ethereal choruses on offer here perhaps sum up the raw, elemental power of the album itself. It's in touch with the soul, with the earth and sky around you, drawing a mystical living energy from every seam of the visible spectrum, and then some.
Clocking in at under two and a half minutes, Chains at Love is tantalisingly short, but somehow this doesn't matter when the chorus is so beautifully, angelically good. Ryan Adams at his best, no doubt about that.
Chains of Love is released on the 12th December.
