Kate McGill - Replaced
Imagine Kate McGill as a more cockney-sounding version of Ellie Goulding, despite the fact she hails from Plymouth. There's a waif-like endearing nature to her and the seven pretty tracks that make up her debut mini-album Replaced.
Mixing electronics and acoustic guitar, it's a more analogue, stripped-back approach than that of Miss Goulding, but allows for a greater focus on melody and the poeticism of McGill's lyrics.
Replaced's title track is an impeccably catchy little pop number and explains just how Kate has already amassed an immense 22 million views on YouTube. With support from Tesco's 1Click2Fame scheme and a unique deal with Cafe Nero, Kate is all set to share her album with the masses.
Diamonds And Waste, with its Gaelic flavoured charms and childlike lilt is another particular highlight off the record.
