Asa - Why Can't We
Asa's album Beautiful Imperfection was a real surprise grower for me earlier this year, the kind that creeps up on you; offering undeniably great tunes backed by obvious talent. The first track on the record was delightfully cheery Why Can't We, now getting a much deserved single release.
With a heritage that encompasses time spent in both Paris and her native Nigeria, Asa pushes a deliciously soulful brand of pop replete with the kind of world-music finesse that makes you feel about ten times more cultured just by listening to it.
Tracks like Why Can't We are classy to the extreme, beautifully produced with an eclectic mix of instruments, all underpinned by Asa's voice itself. You feel that if the greatly-missed Amy Winehouse had been able to record that long-awaited third album, it could very well have sounded a bit like this.
Why Can't We is released on the 17th October.
