Pet Shop Boys to support Take That - Oh, you'll like them...

When the Pet Shop Boys were announced as the support act for Take That's forthcoming stadium tour, I was ecstatic. Talk about a dream pop combo. A 40 minute slot too, basically their own little gig in its own right. Not everyone was quite as excited as I was though. A brief scan across fan reaction on Twitter presented a less rosy picture.

You'd get the rather predictable cries of 'Who?!' or 'Support acts should be new bands, not oldies.' Oh dear. It was rather disappointing to see the Take That fans so disengaged, even though every news article about the story featured quotes from the TT boys singing the praises of the Pet Shop Boys.

People are entitled to like who they like, but there's a base level of 'knowledge' when it comes to music surely? People's tastes differ, but success and sales figures are hard, cold facts that can't be argued with. Even if you didn't like the Pet Shop Boys, you'd have to admit their impact on popular music across the last three decades is undeniable. You wish sometimes that people would just open their minds a little more...

Imagine a whole stadium singing along to Go West... pretty damn impressive eh? Wembley is world-renowned for its atmospheric feel; it's steeped into the very building itself, right down to the construction details.

At the end of the day, the Pet Shop Boys are confirmed now, so for any sceptics, the best advice is just to go along and see how it goes. You never know, you might just like it.
