If there's any Mercury prize winner that can be said to have created an endless stream of controversy, endless news articles and general word-warring on the blogosphere, it was Speech Debelle. It's fair to say, she divided opinion.
And now she's back with the follow up album, the lead single Studio Backpack Rap being exactly the kind of attitude-packed, swaggering number that she needs to launch her new project.
Accompanied by a great video of urban landscapes (I spy Crystal Palace!) and animated hand waving, the song boasts a genuine message, a genuine drive from an artist eager to prove herself to the doubters.
I'm convinced, and considering the fact the track is available as a free download - available here - there's no reason not to check it out.
