Underpinned by a tightly compressed guitar riff, there’s an aptly reassuring stoic stability to latest Four Year Strong single The Security of the Familiar. By the time the chorus kicks in with a powerful volley of bass and chanty gang-vocals, the band have already laid their wares out with tightly rehearsed professionalism; for a pop-punk act, Four Year Strong have a close intensity to them that so many of their contemporaries often only half achieve. Sharp and keenly energetic, The Security of the Familiar is in many ways the definition of a for-radio rock single, and within that form, it excels.
