Perhaps the most bizarre single title you’ll hear all year, but Beekeeper’s Daughter delivers on all the pop-punk levels you’d expect from the All-American, with added teen-movie schmaltzy romance. I mean, what girl wouldn’t fall over in a swoon at a lyric like ‘you’re a pretty little flower, but I’m a busy little bee’?
While Beekeeper’s Daughter marks a firm move away from the rawer, punchy sounds of Gives You Hell, it’s encouraging to see the band grasping to encompass a richer soundbase. With horn flourishes so sunny you’d be forgiven for thinking it was June, the track makes no pretences, no promises, just offers a cheap and easy good time. And sometimes, that’s all you need.
Beekeeper’s Daughter is released on the 26th March.
