Introducing... Vanquish

Any girl band who covers Linkin Park are in my good books straight away. Let us introduce you to Vanquish, the latest glamourous girl group set to take the UK by storm. Comprised of Bee, Holly, Lizzy and Rianna, the frisky foursome showcase their ace vocal harmonies in this rather lovely cover of LP's Numb.

Holly even plays piano on the track too - these days girl bands are having to fight tooth and nail to get the attention of the sceptical anti-pop radio playlists, and clear display of talent like this is always a favourable extra nod in the right direction.

Fresh from thrilling the UK on a variety of schools tours, club nights and theme park appearances the girls are hitting the ground running with a formidable blast of perky future-pop. We're loving the remix clips of their track Headrush on their website; it's carefree stilettos and disco balls stuff that wouldn't sound out of place on The Saturdays new album.

Their YouTube channel also gives a tantalising glimpse at Steal The Show and The Harder You Love; the girls spent the summer entertaining fans at the British Grand Prix earlier this year and the high octane thrills and spills of the race have clearly spilled over into their songs.

We hear they've worked with the amazing Space Cowboy on their debut album as well as Wayne Hector (the guy behind all of The Wanted's best songs), so we're expecting great things to come from these girls!

The Saturdays, On Your Radar with new single My Heart Takes Over

8.15 yesterday morning saw the lovely Mollie King taking to Radio 1 to premiere the eagerly awaited new Saturdays single. An early start, but totally worth it - My Heart Takes Over is a gorgeous, wintery mid-tempo ballad.

It's the kind of single that a lot of fans felt the band needed, the kind of track that could land them that all important X Factor performance slot, and maybe, just possibly, that Number One that they've been aiming at for so long. They certainly deserve one after all the work they've put in over the past few years.

The track taps into that kind of Bruno Mars, beat centric vein of balladry, adding in an epic chorus and my personal favourite bit of the song: Rochelle's vocodered middle-eight part which seems to positively float on the swooshing backing synths. Properly gorgeous.

What's more, we now know that The Saturdays new album will be called On Your Radar, after Una's brilliant outro lines in previous single All Fired Up. We know we'll certainly be keeping the Sats girls on our radar. The album sounds like it will be bursting with top pop tunes; there's a collab with Travie McCoy and producers include Space Cowboy, Steve Mac, Brian Higgins and David Eriksen.

My Heart Takes Over is released on the 13th November, with On Your Radar following the next week on the 21st November.

Listen to The Saturdays All Fired Up & Ladykiller previews

Don't you just love it when Amazon/iTunes post those 30 seconds of preview of new songs ages before they're released? What this means is that we get to hear The Saturdays' frankly amazing new single All Fired Up, which gives its name to their upcoming winter tour.

Following in the more dancey tradition of Notorious, but stepping the drama and pace up another few notches, All Fired Up is a relentless onslaught of trance madness and My God does it sound good.

The lightning-quick repition of the chorus 'All Fired Up! I feel alive!' is hyper-catchy, channelling the song's energy and power on a non-stop track straight to your heart, delivering with it a massive shot of adrenaline. It's like the first time you ever drink Red Bull - but a hundred times better than that.

If this doesn't get you up on your feet dancing like it's your last night on Earth then I don't know what will. What's more, the track was written by Space Cowboy (he's done stuff for Lady Gaga!), Brian Higgins and Miranda Cooper (Xenomania - need no introduction!) and MNEK.

Meanwhile, Ladykiller looks set to continue the tradition of absolutely brilliant Sats b-sides. Their last effort Not That Kinda Girl stands as one of their best to date, so I have high hopes for the full length version of Ladykiller when it comes out.

Indeed, by this point in the Saturdays career you could quite easily put together a compilation of all their b-sides and it'd still be better than a good deal of other pop albums out there.

All Fired Up is released on the 2nd September.

Are The Saturdays working with Xenomania on their new album?

With The Saturdays back from shooting their new video in LA, they were quick to hurry back into the studio, working on material for their new album. Una retweeted something very interesting indeed from producer Space Cowboy, who have remixed tracks for Lady Gaga and J Lo in the past:

"upp at Xeno studios listening and getting beats ready for Tha Satz sessions!"

Now, maybe this is just wishful thinking on my behalf but could 'Xeno studios' mean Xenomania?! How amazing would that be. A Saturdays song penned by those geniuses behind Girls Aloud's back catalogue would surely be a true pop masterpiece... Only time will tell.
