The Smiths vs Lana Del Rey - This Charming Video Game

On most occassions, a mash-up either 'works', or just sounds bloody awful. In this case of this melancholia steeped toss-up between The Smiths and LDR, the jury's out. Bit of it are beautiful; an oddly moving, funereal outpouring that almost betters the original Video Games for baroque decadence. But there's also moments where the two songs just don't fit, usually stemming from the fact that This Charming Man's chorus is just too fast to be strewn over the more languid Lana affair. It's a shame, because if Mozza ever took a fancy to recording orchestral versions of his tracks, we reckon it might sound a lot like a better version of this.

The Saturdays - Forever Is Over (Deadmau5 Mash-Up Mix)

Another week, another delving dip into YouTube for a Saturdays mash-up. This time, I found this exceedingly good mix between Forever Is Over and Deadmau5's Ghosts N Stuff. And it really works, turning the Saturdays' feisty pop number into a sprawling, epic club anthem.

And while we're on the topic, this interpolation of The Saturdays' Just Can't Get Enough with the Depeche Mode original is amazing.

The Saturdays - If This Is Love / Moves Like Jagger mash-up

The live setting typically presents most artists with the opportunity to mix things up a bit, to tweak a few of their songs, to try something a little... different.

Earlier this year, The Saturdays treated their fans to an awesome medley of Rihanna hits in a kind of pop-meets-pop live epic-athon. Not wishing to leave their new All Fired Up tour feeling underdone, The Sats have incorporated Maroon 5 hit Moves Like Jagger into their own If This Is Love for a new mash-up of suitably dancey proportions.

One thing's for sure, those Saturday girls have certainly got those moves like Jagger...

The Saturdays cover Aloe Blac's I Need A Dollar & Mann's Buzzin' for Radio 1's Live Lounge

Wowza! It's fair to say Radio 1's Live Lounge is usually something of a mixed bag, throwing up as many dodgy cover versions as it does inspired ones.

But The Saturdays' mash-up cover of Aloe Blac's I Need A Dollar & Mann's Buzzin' was without a doubt one of the best performances I've heard on the show in its long history.

Smooth, soulful and showing off the girls' harmonies to their very best, the track sounded thoroughly professional - a genuinely excellent performance that holds proper merit in its own right.

With Una playing guitar too, they without a doubt left their individual stamp on the track.

The girls also treated us to a lovely acoustic version of their latest single Notorious and talked about *that* Twitter beef with Example as well as their December tour and Mollie's love of Wimbledon.
