Unzip This Way... Gaga is NME's cover star

Lady Gaga on the cover of NME. Not the most obvious star for them to go with, perhaps, but with a photoshoot like this, it'll be certain to stand out on the magazine shelves. Now, I'm not usually the biggest fan of Lady Gaga's outfits, but some are simply so bonkers they transcend into amazingness. Take meat dress or Kermit suit; completely and utterly impractical, but they get the nation talking. And the see-through zipped catsuit she dons for the NME cover looks set to do the same.

Definitely not something you'd want to wear with the weather as hot as it is at the moment, but Gaga certainly seems to be 'enjoying' herself in regards to the artfully placed zips...

In the accompanying interview, Lady Gaga targets those calling her manufactured, saying they can 'fuck off'. Quite right too. In the comments section below NME's online feature about the cover, as you might expect, there's already a heap of knee-jerk criticism of her comments from die-hard 'indie' boys. It's a rather dispiriting experience glancing through their closed-minded views on pop but it highlights yet again how controversial Lady Gaga is as a popular figure. Major props to NME for putting her on the cover anyway, it's a brilliant photoshoot and a fitting tribute to one of the most iconic stars of our generation.

Lady Gaga - Judas

For a track as eagerly awaited as Lady Gaga's new single, it was only fitting that it should sneak oh-so subtly onto iTunes - read for download - while a nation held their breath from a radio premiere. Gaga's most epic track to date, Judas centres around an absolutely immense euro-pop chorus that stands on a par with Bad Romance. It's strength is in channeling all the best bits of said song but re-injecting them into a massive industrial dance stomper.

When Gaga talked about the track being 'metal-techno' that's exactly what it sounds like. The beat is fucking insane. That really is the only way to describe it. And if it sounds this good on the radio, just imagine it in a club. WOW. It takes the already phenomenal power of Born This Way and multiplies it by a billion. You wouldn't think it was possible, but there Gaga goes, breaking the rules of pop yet again. With songs like this, she really does have the world in the palm of her hand - Judas representing the culmination of everything that is brilliant about her.

Whether it's the heartfelt refrains of 'I'm in love with Ju-u-u-das' or the random screams where it sounds like she's being electrocuted, there's an eerie and irresistible beauty to the song. How can something so harsh and relentless be beautiful? Gaga makes it work. With her, all logic goes out of the window - Judas is a current of pure ecstasy being laced straight through your speakers and into your ears. It's a track that captures every facet of human nature jam packed into four minutes of jaw-droppingly good pop. It goes without saying Gaga stands in an absolute league of her own at the moment.

Hearing this for the first time, you're fixed to the spot, utterly transfixed - the second time you hear it, you want to dance til you drop.

With Judas, Gaga leaves you breathless, reeling, blown out of any sense of the rational world - but My God does it feel amazing.

Redtrack - Limit To Your Love

If, like the rest of the UK, you feel as if every time you turn on the radio, Limit To Your Love is playing, you may want to check out this nifty little version from the band Redtrack for some more of that lovely chilled vibe. Their take on it sticks pretty close to the James Blake version, but still manages to feel like they've put their own distinctive stamp on it. It's brighter, bigger sounding, more organic than the chilly minimalism of Blake's track. The accompanying black & white video is nice too; despite looking like an advert for a new expensive fragrance at times with its glossy, atmospheric lightning and MacBooks on show.

With a performance at Reading & Leeds' Radio 1 Introducing stage in the bag as well as an appearance on hit teen soap Hollyoaks, Redtrack also released their debut album Whole Town's Heart last Autumn.

Wonderland - Rolling In The Deep (Adele cover)

Wonderland's brilliant debut EP was released this week, but if that wasn't enough, they've also treated us to a brilliant acoustic session for The Sun. I love how they inject some really grit and soul into this cover of Adele's smash hit Rolling In The Deep. It's an inspired version and really shows the best of what the girls have to offer as a band. Great stuff!

George Michael, please do True Faith justice...

So, what we know: George Michael is doing a song for Comic Relief, but the best thing is that it'll be a cover of New Order's 1987 hit True Faith. Now, New Order are in my top five favourite bands of all time and True Faith is one of my favourite singles of theirs, so I'm really, really hoping George can do proper justice to the track. I haven't been this excited about a Comic Relief single since Girls Aloud and The Sugababes released their cover of Walk This Way. Good ol' Red Nose Day obviously has a fancy for classic 80s hits.

Anyway, please could this be more like the amazingness that was Rihanna sampling New Order's Blue Monday on Shut Up And Drive and not some boring middle of the road Radio 2 friendly re-hash of the track. George himself has brought out some great dance-pop tracks in the past so please can his True Faith cover continue in this tradition.

Oh, and all the proceeds from the single go to charity, which is always nice.

True Faith is released 13th March.

Sunday Girl - Photoshop Handsome (Everything Everything cover)

I love the original version of this song by Everything Everything, but this cover/mix of it by electropop starlet Sunday Girl is quite possibly even better. One of my favourite bits of the original are the bonkers, quirky lyrics, and in Sunday Girl's version, they stand out even more.

All the dreamy, bleepy synths are lovely and by the time it hits the chorus it just leaves you going 'WOW'. It's a pure 80s, almost Human League/Blondie-esque new wave straight out there slice of awesome. Sunday Girl looks set to be one of 2011's biggest new stars and paired with her amazing single Stop Hey, stuff like this is getting me very, very excited for her album.
