Sub Focus feat. Alice Gold– Out The Blue

Pulsating like some generator going critical, new Sub Focus tuneage Out The Blue is a bewitching bit of club magic that twists the impressive hookiness of its predecessor Falling Down onto a monster of a synth riff. There’s a sort of dreamy 80s ambience to Out The Blue that ensures it shines with all the vitality of a proper radio hit as much as it feels assured of absolutely commanding any club setting. Sub Focus have really laid out their stall as one of the best dance outfits about in 2012, and the fizzy, charged-up power of Out The Blue looks set to further those successes on to even greater levels.

Sub Focus (feat. Kenzie May) - Falling Down

Already hailed as one of Zane Lowe's 'hottest records in the world', the new Sub Focus single is a bit of pic n' mix of the greatest in dance trends over the past two decades.

For the most part, it stutters and sways over a metallic dub-step beat, but its best moments come as more analogue sounds creep into the mix: early 90s synth stabs and turn of the millennium soaring trance hooks.

In possession of a solid chorus vocal too, Falling Down makes for a confident lead-in to the forthcoming new album from the producer.

Chase & Status - Flashing Lights (featuring Sub Focus & Takura)

Chase & Status are at their best at two extremes. On one hand, the unstoppable power of punchy dub-step anthems like Let You Go - and then on the other, the more subtle, spook-pop of stuff like Time.

Flashing Lights then, is something of a middle-ground, and benefits from the production duo bringing the best of both camps to the table. It's eerie, darkly satisfying and come the immense breakdown in the track's last minute, possessed of a metallic, industrial intensity of terrifying proportions.

The opening even harks back to 2008 and Chase & Status's epic Pieces, the masterpiece that was to hint at the success that would shortly come to them.

Not many acts can get away with releasing seven or so singles from one album, but Chase & Status have undoubtedly proven that they are deserving of such a luxury.
