Demi Lovato - Give Your Heart A Break

Let's just state this for the record - we absolutely love Demi Lovato. And her new single Give Your Heart A Break makes us want to run outside and shout it from every rooftop. Because it's that good, that exceptionally brilliant. The rest of Demi's Unbroken album might have been a mixed affair, plagued by a number of wishy-washy R&B collab-heavy moments, but Give Your Heart A Break sees Demi re-born as an empowered pop princess every bit the equal of Miley or Selena.

It's that chorus, like a fanfare of triumphant joy effusing out across the skyline to the very corners of world, a union-spanning instant of POP in its purest, most refined form. It makes you feel like you could take on an army single-handed and come out on top. It's brilliant, so brilliant. And it makes us very excited about Demi coming to the UK to promote Unbroken early in April.

The Disney stars. Everyone has their favourite. Personally I'm more of a Miley kind of guy myself, but the fact that Demi Lovato's Skyscraper is a rather good pop record is inescapable.

The first single from her new album Unbroken, its stately piano balladry might come as a shock to those expecting sugar-rush up-tempo dance-pop of the kind done so expertly by fellow Disney princess Selena Gomez.

And while Skyscraper lacks the out-and-out boldness of Selena's hooks or Miley's gritty electro stormers, what it does do is present Demi as a proper artist - one who can hit all those high notes with the best of them.

As the track reaches its towering, tear stained crescendo, there's an almost theatrical scale to the way it stabs at the emotions - cynics might love to fault them but those Disney kids sure know how to pump their tracks full of actorial passion.

And it really works - Skyscraper might not set the charts alight like Adele's odes to heartbreak, but you can count on the fact that out there somewhere, it'll soundtrack some teenager's own relationship woes. And records like that never really go away.

Skyscraper is released on the 27th February.
