Straylings to headline Camden Barfly show

We loved the Brit-poppy sounds of Straylings' free download track Wallpin and the band is taking to the stage of Camden's Barfly on the 14th Jan to delight North London revellers. Fancy checking out the band? Tickets can be booked here.

Their lead single Carver's Kicks lends itself to a more pensive sound - this is the band's reflective side brought to the fore. It's the chorus that is the real treat though, a full on nostalgic hit of road-movie bliss, all care-free spirit and the very essence of individualism. Dust blasted and wind-swept, it's the beauty of the wilds tamed in song format.

The band's album Entertainment On Foreign Grounds is released on the 5th March.

-rp- - We Fly

A song - quite literally written on the road. This is the story behind new single We Fly from Hampshire band -rp-, the track tacking shape over a ten day hitch-hike across the UK.

They say the thrill of the journey breeds creativity, and not only did the song itself spring from this spot of impromptu travelling, but also the accompanying video - put together from footage of over 100 people they met along the way.

The first thing that springs to mind is a more meaty version of Scouting for Girls. It's that same brand of melodic piano pop, but as the guitars kick in and the song properly gets going, it's clear the band have considerably more heft than the aforementioned Radio 1 darlings.

Rothko - Starry Eyed (Ellie Goulding cover)

If you'd ever wondered what a rock cover of Ellie Goulding's Starry Eyed would sound like, then wait no longer. Reading-based band Rothko do a pretty admirable job of covering the young songstress's hit single. The four-piece, comprised of Tom Woodford, Elliot Wilkins, Nick Ellis, Steve Snyman are playing the Camden Barfly on the 22nd February and if you like the sound of them, you can also check them out at Reading's Face Bar on the 4th of March.
